On Saturday May 23, 2015, NiS+TS conducted a research creation walk, “Across the Narrows”, exploring Tufts Cove, the area of the Dartmouth waterfront most directly affected by the Halifax Explosion of 1917. The walk led participants to the former site of the Mi’kmaq community of Turtle Grove which was destroyed in the Explosion. The route began at the foot of Nivens Street and ended at Shannon Park. Dartmouth’s population was much smaller than Halifax’s in 1917 (as it is now), but suffered proportionally the same devastation.
